no titles, its tuesday. . .

howdy all, so here's the latest in my world, painting, lots and lots of painting, LoL! I've got an art filled weekend coming up down in the tri-cities with a good friend I've not seen in some time and then the following weekend I'll be in Portland causing some shenanegeans with good friends down there and checking out some galleries to see if I could start selling some stuff down there cause its Ptown and they've got the Pearl. . . and I do love the Pearl district! Anyways, hope wherever this finds you you're doing fantastic, praise the lord and pass the gunpowder yall, yeeeehhhhhhaaaawwwwwww!!

this feels weird. . .LoL

Okay, so here's officially my first blog. . . which sounds weird, LoL! But I was asked by my friend Lindsey to write a blog but I'm not sure really what to write about so here's what I'm up to, lots of painting (gearing up for a couple of western art shows), lots of ranching and horseback riding, even more shenanegeans, lots of working at the docs office, aaaaannnnnddddd figuring out if I really want to go to my 10 year high school reunion. I'm thinking I'll head to yakima for the weekend and just head out to the Berg compound for some festivities with my friends and see my parents and call it a weekend! so there you have it, my first blog entry, if you're actually taking the time to read this, well, get the hell outside and enojoy some fresh air, LoL! Praise the lord and pass the gunpowder yall! yeehawwwww!

Saturday sketching

just doing some sketch style problem solving for another project and I've had this photo I've wanted to work on for quite some time. I didn't take the original photo; however, since I don't know who the original photographer is nor the gorgeous model I don't have a way to link back to them so here's what I modified. . . I took out pretty much all the surrounding background and foreground detail to really focus in on her face and her eyes, which are my focal point. I eliminated the lines that normally would form the figure and allowed the negative space and the highest value to create an invisible outline to give her a bathed in light appearance. I also stripped away all of the details from her sweater to attempt to not distract from the focal point. Anyways, hope this finds each of your making life your bitch, slainte!

The Ride

just a conte drawing of a rodeo gal I took some photos of a few years back. I finally got around to working this one up which went to auction recently in a Western Art Auction in Yakima WA, hopefully it made some money cause all proceeds go to childrens programs in that area. And since I DID grow up there for a good number of years as well as graduate high school there I always like to give back when I can since the town really has given me alot throughout my life. Hope yall enjoy and wherever this finds you that you're in the middle of some cheeky shenanegans

Oregon Coast at Sunrise

This piece was created from a photo of one of my last visits to the Lincoln City area. I really enjoy playing around with that area of the Pacific Northwest. I think my favorite aspect is that no matter how crazy I want to get with the colors of the clouds or surrounding scenary, it's probably been already envisioned in real life. The colors that can be found on the Oregon coastline are a colorist's dream; the variety really is endless. Anyways I'm off to run some errands but I really enjoyed making this one, so hope yall enjoy and that this finds you doing great!

Into the Canyon

The ironic thing about this piece is I actually began it with the intention of making it an Arizona desert landscape, LoL! One of the most wonderful aspects of painting landscapes is even if I have a idea of what I want in the beginning, life happens and I never know how the pieces will end up. Parts of this one also went through a couple of revisions to get to where they ended up but some great problem solving and technique playing around were had, anyways, enough babble back to the easle for me! Country Roads

Howdy yall! So this one's going into one of the gallery shows in the upcoming months and was mostly inspired by the fact that I've got John Denver stuck in my head, LoL! Grandpa Grimes goes afishing

this piece is a birthday present for my buddy Tyler's Grandpa, the only real elements Tyler wanted was a mountain somewhere in the background, fall colors on the ground and then obviously his G'ps casting a line somewhere in the foreground, this place isn't anywhere specific but more a mashup of the places i go and play around in, so mt raineer, mt spokane, and some Mt Mkinnley goodness for good measure. I'd jot more but i've got a cup of earl gray waiting for me so until next time true beleivers. . . same bat time, same bat channel!

Happy Little Hills

this one was another piece of me just reflecting and painting whatever came into my head, I've been reflecting on alot of the aspects of my life and both positive and negative I'm a pretty lucky guy. I've had some great adventures with some of you reading this and made so many memories with so many wonderful people, that well, I'm an incredably blessed guy. I'll spare yall the five hour speach and leave you with this, let your loved ones know how much they mean to you, because you our time together truly is a gift so thank you for sharing your gift of time with me. Love yall and hope you enjoy this little diddy. . .

Daydreaming. . .

so a lot has happened in my personal life since the last time I posted some pieces on here and its been pretty life altering stuff, which the mark of any life experience whether good or bad, is obviously to glean some sort of lesson from the event. And to be honest, there's not much good that comes from losing someone you love, and really the only good thing from my friend Erik's passing is that its brought the old teammates back into each others lives and its taught me the difference that one truly good person can make in someones life. So in the middle of my reflections and procrasting about working on Eriks portrait for his family I've been doing one of my favorite things, day dreaming. And usually my dreams involve the outdoors, open plains as far as the eyes can see, rolling hills, forrest scenes so full of trees that you'd get lost just looking at them. . . ya know, the usual stuff, LoL. Anyways, this one reminded me of Erik and I thought alot about him while working on it and so to Erik Anderson, my friend, I dedicate this one to you, thank you for sharing your brief life with us, for being the model of a good man, husband, and father and mostly for being able to rock the hell out of a mullet wig! We'll miss you man, cheers!

Sand Castle

one of the most important women in my life Lindsay has been pestering me for some time to paint something for her and I finally got around to it, LoL. She, like myself is a huge fan of the Palouse landscapes and coastal scenes so for this one I took what I remember from the Oregon coast (around Lincoln City and Haystack Rock areas) along with a couple of elements from trips she's gone on and created this piece for her birthday/christmas present, but sadly due to airport security being pains in the ass she had to leave this piece at the house until I can deliver it to her in Seattle, or maybe I'll just keep it for randsom until she comes back home for a visit, LoL

Into the Fjordlands

so one of my best friends Brianna has been living with the Kiwi's for the last couple of years and she's always been kind enough to supply me with endless amounts of artistic inspiration with her travels since I've not been able to afford to resume my travelling gypsy ways (LoL) she always takes lots of pictures for me to paint. She figures that way maybe some day I'll be able to go trapsing around the globe with her so her ya go, this piece is based on a photograph taken by her, and commanded by her for me to paint, so hope yall enjoy, cheers!
